What Folks Have to Say about Texas Hot Flash...

"As the booking coordinator and co-producer of the Live Oak Coffeehouse concert series, I have the privilege of listening to a lot of music. But the performers who can grab you right from the start and never let go are few and far between. Texas Hot Flash, a mostly a cappella trio from the Austin area, is among these few. They first performed as an opening act at Live Oak several years ago, and it was immediately apparent that they needed to headline their own show. At the first available opportunity I brought them back to do just that. I am a sucker for three part harmonies, and few people perform them better than Texas Hot Flash. Unless you've tried to do it yourself, it is hard to appreciate just how difficult it is to blend three voices and hold the pitch, especially without any instrumental accompaniment. Their combination of original tunes and "classics," including the Beatles, is quite captivating. When the band departs from their a cappella format, Brenda's guitar, Amy's keyboard, and Karené's percussion provide just the right touch. The sometime fourth member of the band, Michael D'Eath (the token male), does not sing, but he is a fabulous harmonica player, and he always adds the perfect accompaniment (and even an occasional solo) to many of their songs. This is a band that needs to be seen and heard live in order to really appreciate them. Do yourself a favor. Turn off the radio (and, God forbid, the TV) and go hear a live performance of Texas Hot Flash. Tell 'em, uh, Austin sent ya!!"
